FIVE TIBETAN'S RITES
modus Operandi.
During the first week of practice, in normal health conditions, start the practice of "Five Tibetans' in sequences of three replications for each of the five motions. Increase the number of repetitions in increments over two replicates per week.. If you are with a health problem, start practicing with only the first three movements and making only one sequence each, keeping this pace for at least the first week. Gradually, as it is comfortable feeling for every week add a new movement. Go at your own pace progressing to increase the number of repetitions of each movement.. The progress in the number of repetitions in each movement should be consistent with your comfort level in practice. Do not force: environment gradually. Could increase the number of repetitions in all movements or just the feeling that if it's more comfortable.. During practice the movements follow the rhythm of your breathing is comfortable. Do not force it to be slower or faster: enjoy its natural rhythm.. Between each movement, pause between 3 to 5 full breaths.. The recommended maximum number of repetitions is 21. If you want to enhance your program, do the moves in a faster cadence. Increase the number of repetitions for more than 21 may affect your chakras and produce imbalances in the body.. To benefit from the full potential of 'Five Tibetan Rites' practice them daily - preferably in the morning, fasting. In the days of less time available, do at least three repetitions of each movement.
YOGA OF FIVE TIBETAN RITES
I
n 1939 a remarkable little book entitled The Five Rites of Rejuvenation authored by a man named Peter Kelder was published. The book gave an account of an engaging story about the discovery of five yoga exercises taught to Kelder by a retired British army officer who had learned the exercises from some Tibetan lamas in a monastery high in the Himalayas. According to the book the Five Rites of Rejuvenation were reputed to strengthen the body, boost energy, regenerate body and mind, and slow the aging process. All of which sounded really good to me when I first heard about them.
This program is often described as a modified yoga program. Simply put, yoga is a science that unites the body, mind and spirit. Today this is often called Mind/ Body Healing. The author of the book believes that yoga was brought to Tibet from India in the 11th or 12th century and that Tibetan monks over time developed modified these exercises and developed an effective program of exercises that western society now calls the "Five Tibetan Rites". The rugged mountainous conditions these monks live in may well account for their particular emphasis on vigor. Many of the yoga exercises and practices being taught in the western world today are very new. The "Five Tibetan Rites" are exactly what the ancient Tibetans developed over many centuries of time. Therefore it's very important to do the "Five Tibetan Rites" exactly as they are presented without altering the form or sequence to achieve some of the benefits accrued to these "Rites".
Practised daily in Tibet, one of the longest lived peoples on the earth today, these five simpleexercises are also called the Ancient Secrets to the Fountain of Youth. The authors of subsequent books about the yoga practice that takes only about 10 minutes a day to complete provide many examples of the benefits of the "Five Tibetan Rites" including:
- Looking much younger;
- sleeping soundly;
- waking up feeling refreshed and energetic;
- relief from serious medical problems including difficulties with the spine;
- relief from problems with joints;
- release from pain;
- better memory;
- arthritis relief;
- weight loss;
- improved vision;
- getting younger instead of aging;
- greatly improved physical strength, endurance and vigour;
- improved emotional and mental health;
- enhanced sense of well being and harmony; and very high overall energy
The Tibetans claim that these exercises activate and stimulate the seven key chakras that in turn stimulate all the glands of the endocrine system. The endocrine system is responsible for the body's overall functioning and aging process. The means that according to the Tibetans who have been practising their own brand of medicine very successfully for thousands of years the five Rites will affect the functioning of all your organs and systems, including the physical and energetic systems and that includes the aging process.The Speed of the chakra spin is a key to vibrant health. The other keys to vibrant health that relates to the chakra is ensuring they are clear of negative energy and that they are perfectly shaped and not distorted.
The Five Rites speed up the spinning of the chakras, coordinate their spin so they are in complete harmony, distribute pure prana energy to the endocrine system, and in turn to all organs and processes in the body. This is one of the major requirements for vibrant health, rejuvenation and youthfulness.
The 5 Tibetans are a once secret, ancient rejuvenation technique that has been practiced by monks and are made up of 5 different movements, with each movement performed up to 21 times (the Tibetans believe 21 is a perfect mystical number). An important part of the Tibetans is to consciously synchronise your breathing while performing each activity. It is a good idea to practice the basic 4 step breathing technique.
Inhale; hold (breath in) gently;
Exhale; hold (breath out) gently.
"The Five Tibetans is simple, practical, effective and certainly mind/body altering. If you would love to become rejuvenated, remain calm, feel more vitality, be more flexible and simply look your absolute best, there is now a new way to experience a greater sense of wellbeing that takes just minutes a day, but lasts a lifetime." Dr John F. Demartini, best selling author of The Breakthrough Experience and teacher on The Secret.
Each of the five rites are connected to the five elements in Asian Traditional Medicine:
- Fire: draught, heat, movement, flaring,
- Wood: germination, extension, softness, harmony, flexibility,
- Metal: strength, firmness, cutting, cleaning,
- Earth: growing, changing, nourishing, producing,
- Water: moisture, cold, descending, flowing.
After you have learned and are comfortable with them, try creating an affirmation to go with each one according to their element and allow your affirmation to fill your mind while you are doing that activity.
For example:
1. Spinning: I am now filled with energy
2. Leg Raises: My mind is now clear and I am calm
Allow your yoga practice to be a special time you create just for you, when you bring extra care and attention to what you are doing by staying in the here and now. Use this time to get in touch with yourself and your needs on a daily basis. Unlike many other forms of exercise these five simple exercises require no special equipment, no particular type of weather, and no-one other than yourself, and they can be taken with you where ever you go and can be done where ever you are.
I know that for me this time I give myself every day, has become a way to begin my day in a balanced, calm state from which I draw energy and I have grown to enjoy it so much, why not try it out for yourself and see?
These 5 Rites of Rejuvenation have been used in Tibet for thousands of years and they are some of the longest lived people on earth.
